About
I'm Rigel Harris, a birth and postpartum doula based in Brooklyn, NY, and I have had the privilege of attending over 100 births across the tristate area.
I was born and raised in New Hampshire and later moved to New York City, a place I now call home, after graduating from Skidmore College with a degree in theater and dance. My background in the arts has deeply enriched my approach to doula work, bringing creativity, empathy, and a sense of calm to the birth experience.
My decision to become a doula was inspired by a personal experience where a designated advocate provided me with unwavering support during an incredibly vulnerable time. This profound encounter opened my eyes to the essential role of doula work —someone who not only offers compassionate and grounded care but also can act as a staunch advocate for you and your family when you may not be able to advocate for yourselves.
I support all birthing bodies and experiences, no questions asked. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or to set up an intake call, I look forward to hearing from you!

FAQs
-
A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Unlike a medical provider, a doula focuses on your comfort, confidence, and overall experience.
-
No. Doulas are non-medical professionals who work alongside your healthcare team. We support your choices and help you advocate for the birth experience you want.
-
Studies show that continuous doula support can lead to shorter labors, fewer interventions, and more positive birth experiences. Postpartum doulas can also help ease the transition into parenthood by supporting recovery, infant care, and emotional well-being.
-
You can hire a doula at any point in your pregnancy, though many people reach out in the second trimester to ensure availability and build a strong connection before labor.
